Your nails are not just a blank canvas for your favourite nail polish or set of false nails; they are also a reflection of your overall health and grooming habits. Neglecting your nails can lead to problems like brittle nails, fungal infections, and more. But fear not; with the right nail care routine, you can maintain strong, beautiful nails. Let's dive into the ultimate guide to nail care.There are 12 steps we are going to explore in today's blog. Each step is vital to help maintaining strong beautiful nails.

Step One - Keep Nails Clean
Regularly cleaning your nails with a soft nail brush and warm, soapy water to remove dirt and bacteria, This is the foundation of great nails; Cleanliness.
Always make sure you're paying attention to the area under the nails where grit and grime can accumulate. 

Step Two - Trimming and Shaping 
Using a clean nail clipper trim your nails to your preferred length. Making sure you do this regularly. Once you have trimmed your nails File them using one direction only seesawing the file can cause damage to the nail, so using one direction you get a smoother shape. There are multiple shapes to choose from which will you choose? Square, Round, Oval or Almond!.

Step Three - Moisturise
Moisturising your nails and cuticle daily with a high quality cuticle oil or cream has various benefits such as Hydrated nails that are less likely to break or split.

Step Four - Avoid Biting Them Nails!
Did you know biting your nails can lead to infections? It can also weaken your nails. Breaking this habit can be difficult but can be done by using a bitter-tasting nail polish or seeking support. 
I used the anti biting pots where you dip you nails into the pot, the taste was awful!!

Step Five - Healthy Diet
Your diet can have a significant impact on the health of your nails. Ensuring that you're eating a balanced diet rich with vitamins and minerals, especially Boitin (which is known for promoting nails growth) can help you on your journey to healthier nails.

Step Six - Avoid Harsh Chemicals
Did you know that nail polish removers and other nail products can contain harsh chemicals? It's true, Always be mindful when buying nails products what chemicals are included. Always opt for acetone-free Alternatives. 
The chemicals which can harm your nails will weaken and damage your nails.

Step Seven - Base Coat?
One of the best tips i can give you is to always apply a base coat to your nails before applying any nail polishes to your nails. Using a base coat will help to protect your nails from staining and extend the wear of the nail polish.

Step Eight - Avoiding Overexposure to Water
Excessive exposure to water such as washing the dishes without wearing gloves, can weaken your nails. Wearing gloves when doing the cleaning and other chores that involve water will protect your nails.

Step Nine - Trim Cuticles Carefully
Those who go to the salon/nail bars regularly will have their cuticles trimmed on most visits. You can also do this yourself using cuticle nippers. If you do decide to trim these yourself ensure you are gentle and never cut them too close to the nail. The best practice is to push them back with a cuticle pusher or an orangewood stick prior to trimming.

 

Step Ten - Be Gentle
Using you nails as tools or opening cans you risk damaging your nails via chipping and breaking them. Remember your nails aren't the tools and its your fingers. Treat your nails gently and use the correct tools for the job.

Step Eleven - Regular Manicures
Remember to treat yourself to regular manicures whether this be in a salon/nail bar or at home. This can help in keeping your nails in tip-top condition. Plus it's a great way to have a relaxing pamper session all to yourself.

Step Twelve - Pay Attention to Warning Signs
It's good practice to inspect your nails regularly so you can spot any warning signs early. If you notice any discolouration, ridges or unusual changes in your nails consult either your GP or a Dermatologist. You never know these could be signs of an underlying health issue.
